so.. we aren't really supposed to link arms/hug/hold hands or anything that resembles it with the opposite sex, but you can't really tell an 81year old woman No when she's beaming from ear to ear |
This week was awesome for Elder Alexis and I! We fulfilled our purpose as missionaries, and helped our Sister Guadalupe come closer to Christ as she got baptized on Saturday!
Gudalupe is about as prepared by the Lord as it comes. She was first introduced to the missionaries 40 years ago in Mexico, and after 40 years of feeling, seeing the example of her family, and striving the do her best, she decided that now was the time and she was ready to make the decision to be baptized. She is an amazing mother, and every action in her life has reflected her love for he family. She sacrificed many, many things. Her story is amazing, beginning with being forced to marry at 14 and then providing for her family and putting all of her children through college despite having no more than a middle school education, and having diabetes and needing to work through all of the sacrifice and expenses that come with that.
I had the chance to be in the room during he baptismal interview, which usually is restricted indefinitely to insure that she has learned and been taught effectively and we are her teachers dont sway the results. However, no one was available to do the interview in Spanish, so I had to act as a translator (extremely dificult because she always answer questions with a 5-10 min life story haha) as she was asked questions about her relationship with Christ, and what she has learned throughout her teaching experience. The Spirit was so strong there, and being able to feel and listen to her simple, yet strong, unshakeable, and powerful testimony was a really cool experience. It really solidified to me that was a missionaries to help bring people closer to christ.

Our Area is still progressing really well! We are still teaching Assiel, our Cuban friend who shares the Gospel with everyone. His wife/girlfriend Claudia was finally able to come to church this Sunday as well! because their baby girl, Kiley, has had all her immunizations (she's less than 2 months old). You could tell they loved it! and in Gospel Principles, Claudia found the "Eternal Families" chapter and was reading it at the end of the class. Elder Alexis and I caught glimpse and got super stoked! It's amazing that our church is the only church that teaches the doctrine of Eternal Families, when it is so essential to God's plan for us. I've noticed that everyone, whether they accept the Restored Gospel or not, finds something that they know is different and undeniably true about our church, that cannot be found elsewhere. I could write several paragraphs about that subject, but I will save you all the boredom.
Hope everyone has had a great week! Thanks for everyone who has been sending me letters/emails. I suck at writing back... it's a goal I'm working on. But I am receiving them and appreciate them!
Elder Johns
