Sunday dinner with English, Haitian, and Spanish Elders |
We had a pretty uneventful week.. dropped a lot of people, found a lot of new potentials. We are still working with Alma and Isidro (hopefully hopefully getting married/baptized this week), Señor and Señorita (the young couple with the baby), and Fabiola (who wants to be baptized but needs to marry her "husband" first). We are kind of the running joke of the zone right now, people are calling us "the love doctors," quoting the old Priest in The Princess Bride when he says "Mawwaige... Mawwaige is vut bwings Elder Awexis, and Jowns, togeva, towday.." and asking us when we're gonna upon up a chapel to marry all these people we are working with, hahaha. Hopefully God isn't preparing me for some unforeseen difficulty getting married (maybe not a bad thing.. no woman, no debt!)
We finally were able to sit down alone with Señor and have a "bro-talk" about what's keeping him from marriage. He opened up to us a lot about his past, and basically explained that he's scared of falling back into his own ways, letting Señorita, baby Kiley, and himself down. We were able to explain that for that very reason we have to Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Atonement. As he and his family live the Gospel, they will be strengthened in their family and become a rock against the things of the world. We also explained that we can see the love that Señorita has for him and that she has expressed, charity, or the pure love of Christ. She will love him through his short-comings, work with him through their trials, but that love is only found as they work together to come closer to God by keeping his commandments. Elder Alexis gave a powerful testimony that he and Señorita were ready for Baptism and Marriage. The Spirit was so strong, and confirmed it to all of us there, including Señor He agreed that he just needs to decide to do, and that he would talk to her. Unfortunately he left for Miami after that, and we haven't been able to follow up on their talk and see if they've been able to reach a decision as to when they will be married.
I've been studying a lot in the Bible recently, and continuing to study the foundation of the Primitive Church Christ established during his ministry, and that we find during the Apostolic mission of Paul. It's really very interesting, with the Book of Mormon and modern revelation, we can very, very clearly understand and clarify doctrine in the Bible that for many people has many different interpretations.
Also, Thanks grandparents for all the letters! I promise I'm going to make a sincere effort to write some letters today.
Hope all is going well!
Love,
